Welcome to the Arizona Museum for Youth, where it’s adventure time from the instant you enter until the moment you leave. Some of the key upcoming events include:

Wing It!  All Things That Fly – February 10th through May 6th, 2012

An exhibition that features artwork that showcases our collective fascination with the creatures, inventions and fantasies which allow us to venture up, up and away!

Extreme Pets – May 25th through September 9th, 2012

Domestic animals are not possessions. They are members of the family. Whether it be dog, cat, birds, hamsters, lizards, goats, horses or elephants, our pets provide us with unconditional love. Extreme Pets takes an artistic look at the relationship people have with pets and how much they affect our lives.

Show Me The Money – September 28th through January 20, 2013

Show Me the Money bring to life through art some of the things that make the world go around: dollars, banknotes, bankrolls, bills, bread, bucks, capital, cash, checks, chips, coins, coinage, dough, finances, funds, gold, gravy, greenbacks, hard cash, legal tender, loot, pesos, riches, roll, salary, silver, treasures, wad, wages, and wealth. No matter what you call it, money is an interesting subject to illustrate through art.

Check out membership. For frequent visitors it might be worth considering.

There are a ton of other events listed for 2012. Check the event calendar (link below).

The Museum for Youth isn’t just for kids. There are plenty of things for adults to do as well…in fact there’s a page just for them (see below).

No need to have a DeLorean to go back in time to live in the wild wild west; Just rustle up the heard, load up the ol’ steel horse, and ride to Rawhide, Arizona’s largest western theme park.

Arizona’s astonishing scenic backdrop sets the mood for an incredible western hospitality experience as it was in the late 1800’s. Rawhide’s western town offers a chuck wagon full of fun and attractions for the whole family. Watch out for the rough riders, though. You might get caught up in a shoot-out right there in the streets. Here are some other fun western attractions throughout the town:

Panning for Gold – Try your luck and find out just how easy it really was to strike gold.

Camel Rides – Not sure how this attraction can make you think of life in the old west, but it’s fun for the kids (and you, if you like camels).

The Desert Train – kick back and skirt through town and enjoy a great sunset and the beauty of the Arizona desert.

The Butterfield Stagecoach – travel as they did in the old west in this enchanting coach ride through the Sonoran desert.

The Widow Maker – show off your rodeo skills and impress the locals on this ferocious mechanical bull with kicks and bucks.

Burro Rides – Lasso up little buckaroos, and take a ride through town. (Not for big buckaroos because Rawhide adheres to the town’s burro labor laws.)

The Six Gun Theatre and Rawhide Rough Riders – capture the excitement of life in a western town as a witness to this memorable stunt show of gunfights, explosions, and other antics.

Deadman’s Drop – put your strength to the test and conquer this rock.

Get Arrested – receive an official arrest warrant and keepsake photo, just like they did in the old west.

Shotgun Weddings – if your future son-in-law hasn’t yet popped the question to your daughter yet, force the marriage yourself. Complete with a genuine artificial marriage certificate and keepsake photo.

Spirit of the West Theatre – western performances featuring gun twirling, trick riding, and roping.

Shops, Shops, and More Shops – if shopping is your idea of fun, you won’t be disappointed with more than 15 shops throughout the town.

Dining – experience authentic western-style dining, desert cookouts, sundown cookouts, and more with heaping portions and a full range of fare offers something for every taste.

Lions and Tigers and……Sharks?? Oh My!

Think San Diego is where you can find the closest aquarium to Phoenix? Think again! If you haven’t made the trek along the western edge of Phoenix to the Wildlife World Zoo & Aquarium in Litchfield Park, boy are you missing out. Here you find the only public aquarium between Albuquerque and San Diego featuring nearly 150 aquatic and semi-aquatic species of fish, mammals, birds, invertebrates, amphibians, reptiles, and water predators like sharks, piranha, and barracudas. Straight from the Amazon River you can see giant turtles, fresh water stingrays, and much more.

You are guaranteed to enjoy the overhead exhibits where animals are close as a foot overhead, climbing up a raised platform to feed giraffes, the children’s petting zoo, and five rides throughout the park all integrated into the animal exhibits. Plummet three stories down on the newest log ride attraction, and be sure to wear your rain coat!

Unlike larger zoos with bigger crowds, the Wildlife World Zoo & Aquarium allows for close-up interaction with the animals. Watch how the staff care for the newborns in the nursery, and be sure not to miss having lunch with the sharks swimming right next to your table! The exhibits are designed for the animals to be in their natural environment (as close as you can get in Arizona, I guess) and the park has a nice playground and picnic area, and stroller and wheelchair rental is available.

Things to do in Phoenix : Skateboarding Lessons / Skateboarding Parks

Okay, so you may not be able to perform a 360 mid-air loop without serious bodily harm, but skate boarding can still be a lot of fun, particularly when done safely. At venues such as SK8 Asylum you can learn the basics by taking a lesson or two. If you’re a skilled skater, then you can hone your skills as well.

SK8 Asylum is about fun with safety. From individual lessons to camps and public skate boarding, SK8 Asylum offers it all. Don’t have a skateboard? No problem! The shop at SK8 Asylum has gear from the beginner to semi-professional! Their indoor park is very impressive with Vert Ramp, Bowl and a Street Course. See the Sk8 Asylum website (below) for lessons and admission information.

Kids That Rip offers lessons for all ages, focusing on everything from fundamentals to advanced techniques. The minimum age is 3 years old and classes are by age group in a safe environment. The Kids That Rip skate park is something that has to be seen to be believed, with everything from a Vert Ramp that was part of the 2009 X Games to stair and handrail systems, complete with foam for a softer crash. See the Kids That Rip website (below) for additional information.

Waivers, helmets and safety gear are required by all venues.
