Things to do in Phoenix : Arizona Museum of Natural HistoryMesa is home to a very good Natural History Museum. The Arizona Museum of Natural History includes “Dinosaur Hall”, with fossils and fossil casts (made from the original) of many dinosaurs, including many schoolboy’s favorites, Tyrannosaurus and Coelurosaur, better known to most as the infamous Velociraptor.

The museum boasts “Dinosaur Mountain” where you can marvel at the prehistoric in the flesh. From Stegosaurus to the famous Tryannosaurus, and a flash flood and other special effects, this is an exhibit worth checking out.

If you prefer something more recent, the Arizona Museum of Natural History features “Cenozoic Lobby”, with mammoths, lions, and an impressive jaw from a Megalodon, a shark that makes the Great White look like a guppy.

The museum has exhibits on peoples of the Southwest. Arizona is home to many Native American tribes and has a long history of Native American presence from pre-history to modern times. Exhibits such as “Native Peoples of the Past”, “Ancient Cultures of Mexico” and the new “Lon Megargee: Legendary Prints of the Southwest” bring these all to life.

There are many hands-on exhibits where visitors can explore light and color, hunt for dinosaur bones, pan for gold, and even weigh a dinosaur!
